N.Z. market joins trend
The New Zealand sharemarket yesterday joined in the bullish trend shown by overseas markets, under the influence of declining U.S. interest rates, but trading was only moderately active. The N.Z.U.C. industrial index gained 8.09 points to close at 655.36. Market leaders, which would gain from an improved world economy were prominent. Fletcher Challenge rose 6c. N.Z. Forest Products 3c, Feltex 2c, and Freightways 3c. Goodman improved 9c ex bonus and dividend, and Wilkins and Davies gained 7c ex dividend and after splitting its shares. PDL Holdings was steady in spite of a prediction that it expected another record year. Bunting, Marac, Mount Cook, and National Insurance stood out among the 10 falls.
