Toys’ turn

Netherworld Dancing Toys, who were runners-up in the Dunedin battle of the bands competition, make their debut Christchurch appearance this week. The seven-member group

are unusual in that they have a three-piece horn section — — alto saxophone, and tenor saxophone — and because of that they have been compared with Dexy’s Midnight Runners. Although they do have a soul influence, their sound is more diverse, as the musical backgrounds of Netherworld Dancing Toys includes brass and jazz bands, plus late 1970 s rock music. Bass, drums, and two guitarists make the rest of the line-up that will be playing at the Gladstone Tavern for three consecutive evenings, beginning tonight
