Night classes to escape cuts
PA. Wellington The Government has., pegged its support for night classes because of the price freeze. The Minister of Education (Mr Wellington) said yesterday that the Cabinet had decided against cutting-aid to night classes. The existing level, of,’ assistance through grants, and salaries for vocational and non-vocational night
class courses organised through high schools, technical institutes, and community colleges would remain throughout 1983, he said. Less than $500,000 - had been cut from the . adult education budget, during the Government’s 3 per cent spending cuts and more than $l3B million would be spent on technical, continuing, arid adult education in 1982-83, $l4 million more than last year, Mr Wellington said.
