Cosmos soccer tour speculation
PA Auckland Talk of a visit by New York Cosmos, led by Franz Beckenbauer, is "pure speculation,” according to the secretary-general of the New Zealand Football Association, Mr Gwynn Evans. A report from West Germany yesterday suggested that the Cosmos would play in New Zealand as part of a
tour later this year. Mr Evans said that the only mention of a visit came in a telex “some time ago,” but the guarantee sought by them was “in the big league” and out of the question. He added: “Once we have got the World Cup tidied up we might have a look at it, but any move would first come from the international committee which has yet to meet.” __
