DOING THINGS DECENTLY
By
WHIM WHAM
The Indecent Publications Tribunal has said that it cannot rule on a calendar illustrated with photographs of nude males because it is not a book ... limited by the law to assessing books and sound recordings . . . complaints by Miss Patribia Bartlett, national secretary of the Society for the Promotion of Community Standards. — News.
The Indecency Tribunal took A long hard conscientious Look - The Photographs, and then the Law — They pondered gravely What they saw. Sorry, Miss B*rtl*tt, but We find A Publication of the Kind Complained of isn’t One for Us, It isn’t on the Syllabus — A Calendar Is not a Book! Not ours to classify these Pages, Fit for Adults, or tender Ages, Like Plays, or Poetry or Fiction - It’s not within our Jurisdiction. We can’t decide to ban, or spare It For the Sake of Literary Merit — Pronounce.lt clean, or primly label Innocuous on the Coffee Table, NOT for the Rumpus Room! We are Not competent to bless or bar The Contents of a Calendar.
Cheer up, Miss B! There’s more than One Method of getting Justice done — Try Rob, he’s handy in these Cases, Putting Tribunals in their Places — The Laws obstruct, he’ll change the Laws (If sympathetic to your Cause), Just give him Time for Preparation Of the necessary Legislation, You get the same Result, effectively, The Thing’s INDECENT — retrospectively!
