Bridge toll off soon
—--~o PA Auckland Tolls may be removed from the. Auckland Harbour Bridge next year when the bridge authority pays off the $3O million structure. In a report to the authority’s annual meeting, the chairman. Mr W. Marley, said it would have met its loan obligations within the coming financial year. He said that this would effectively make redundant the principal purpose of tolls which was to repay loans.
Last month, when the Government set up a committee.. to study the size of the'; bridge’s debt, Mr Marley, ‘ said that the authority was 35 years ahead of its originalloans plan... <„ He said $11.9 million was still owed, but the-authority had reserves of $4.6 million,, and $2.2 million was owed by. the Loans Board. r Buildings and vehicles,, with discounts on loans.should pay off the debt, Mr. Marley said. .;
