Otago wins wrestling
Otago regained the I.- B. Roberts provincial challenge trophy from Canterbury in a closely contested amateur wrestling tournament. Otago won six of the ’ll bouts and the result was in doubt until the last bout. Outstanding performances were given by Brent Hollamby (Otago), who has recently returned from a visit to the United States where he was placed seventh in the New York State championships, and by Brent Ellerm (Canterbury), another to have recently returned from the United States, who beat Alan Knox, the New Zealand champion. ■ As well as the official challenge contest, there were 16 other bouts in which Canterbury narrowly edged out Otago. 9-7.’
The 1.8. Roberts trophy results were:— Senior. — K. Howat (C.) lost to S. Wylie (O.), points (15-1); B. Ellerm (C.). beat A. Knox (0), points (14-2). Junior. — D. Mangnall (C.) lost to B. Hollamby (O.), points (15-2). 14 to 16 years. — M. Ross (C.) beat A. Brinsdon (O.), fall, round 1; B. Hunter (C.) beat R. Montgomery (0.) fall, round 2. 10 to 13 years. — B. Saunders (C.) beat S. Bayliss fall, round 1; G. Winn (C.) lost to S. Henderson (0.). fall, round 1; G. Saunders (C.) lost to P. Kennedy (0.) fall round 1: P. Cread (C.)’lost to C. O’Brien (O). points (16-17); S. Hunter (C.) lost to T. Kennedy (0.). points (1-3); B. Landreth (C.) beat S. Dowling (O.). fall, round 2.
