P.M. keeps his promise
PA Rotorua The Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) spent a rare couple of hours relaxing in Rotorua on Tuesday evening — and invited two acquaintances to join him. Mr Muldoon, in Rotorua for the South Pacific Forum meeting, invited Salina and Noti Apirana, two Ruatahuna girls who survived a week lost, in the rugged Urewera National Park in July. 1980, to meet delegates to the forum and to watch the Howard Morrison show, put on at a hotel exclusively for forum members. Mr. and Mrs Muldoon visited the girls in Rotorua Hospital after their ordeal in severe weather in bush country. At one stage of the search for them some police held little hope of finding them alive.
r Noti, who r is 21; had to have her leg's amputated below the knee) and gets about these days with the help of artificial legs. She lives in Rotorua. Salina, aged 23, lives at Murupara.
When Mr Muldoon saw them in hospital two years ago he was impressed with their bravery, and said he would give them a call next time he was in Rotorua and had time to spare.
