Scenic travel by boat
A number of sporting and scenic water trips are available in Marlborough, as would be expected in a pro-,, vince which includes attractions such as the Pelorus and Queen Charlotte Sounds. Havelock is at the head of Pelorus Sound, 43km .from Blenheim. Here the Marlborough Harbour Board has. provided a boat harbour. which includes a marina and a ramp for pleasure craft. ’ Commercial launches operating out of Havelock offer a wide variety of cruises catering for the hunter, the fisherman, the diver and those who just wish to enjoy, the sea air and scenery. Special . charters may be arranged. The famous Glenmore mail run accepts passengers for this interesting day-long trip. Picton Launch Services
cover the Queen Charlotte Sound and cater for all requirements from water taxis to heavy haulage and albday cruises for large parties. Short, two hour sight..seeing trips during the morning or afternoon are regular features, but the longer cruises which allow for onboard or on-shore lunches are'also popular. It is possible: to disembark at the head of Torea Bay to be picked up by bus and taken to the Portage for lunch. Alternatively one may be left at some delightful bay for a picnic and swimming, and be picked up by the launch on its return from an extended cruise. Fishing, tramping and diving parties are provided for, as in Pelorus Sound. Charters including overnight stays can be arranged for large or small parties.
