French senators visit
A delegation from the French Senate Committee for Cultural Affairs have left Christchurch after a two-day visit. The group is in New Zealand to study cultural relations between the two countries. and to look at ways of strengthening them. The chairman of the committee, Mr Leon Eeckoutte, is leading the delegation, which includes two other senators, Mr Adrien Gouteyron, who is deputy chairman, and Mr Pierre Vallon. Also in the group is the admjnis-
trator of the committee, Mr Louis Marcel Garriga. On Saturday,, the Frenchmen visited the Riccarton races, the Canterbury Museum. the Robert McDougall Art Gallery, and attended a Christchurch School of Instrumental Music concert at the Town Hall. They also met the GovernorGeneral, Sir David Beattie, who was in ChristchurchThey spent Sunday at Akaroa, and this morning will yisit Lincoln College before leaving for Wellington. Later in the week, they will go to Auckland. •
