NZPA . Peking Shanghai. China's biggest city, has mobilised hundreds of thousands of people for a concerted attack on flies and mosquitoes.
Shanghai newspapers report that on the first day of the week long campaign citizens had filled in ditches, cleaned up standing water on work sites, sprayed insecticide on rubbish dumps and otherwise had attacked more than 100,000 fly and mosquitos, breeding places. . Aside from the special campaign., the “New' People’s •Evening- News” featured a 78-year-old retired .worker who wields his fly-swatter from morningUo night, every day. Between June 12 and the end of July, it said, he had killed 27.904 flies. His highest total for one day was 1700.
