Art exhibition mooted
A Waimairi District Council art exhibition and award for painting was recommended last evening by the council's finance and by-laws committee. The project, in March, should have a $lOOO first prize. $5OO for second, and a popular-vote prize of $2OO. it was agreed. A grant of $lOOO has been made by the Southern Regional Arts Council, subject to various conditions. More than $3OOO will be contributed by the council. The committee also re-
edmmended a $3 entry fee. with one entry an artist: A local judge is being sought. Anyone is eligible to enter an exhibit. The Canterbury Society of Arts gallery will work with the council’ to organise the show. ' Land ■ Council funds should pay maintenance and other costs for a reserve at the intersection of Greers Road. Sawyers Arms Road, and Northcote Road, the committee agreed. Councillors rejected a move to have the costs met
by the Harewood and Papanui ridings. Local residents petitioned the council to retain the area as a reserve, after its earlier decision to sell it as a residential section. The 'council's works, reserves and traffic committee also recommended • its use as a reserve. Spa pool The second lowest tender of $4770 by Wright Spas, Ltd, -for a spa pool at Spencer Park, was recommended by the committee.
