Puberty blues, say police
PA Auckland A teen-age schoolgirl carrying an air rifle sparked a police alert in scrub in Lynfield, Auckland, yesterday. Eight policemen including three armed offenders squad, members and two dog handlers, were sent to the area after a resident reported seeing the girl and hearing several .shots. Senior-Sergeant Tim Lynch-Blosse said that the girl, dressed' in a school uniform, was suffering from "puberty blues and apparently did not intend to shoot anyone." The girl was taken in for questioning but the police did not expect to lay any charges.
