Regulation does not apply
No restrictions on the number of mares to be covered by a standardbred stallion will apply in the meantime. i “The regulation restricting the number of mares which can be covered by a stallion cannot be enforced until all judicial proceedings have been completed,” said the chief executive officer of the Trotting Conference (Mr John Rowley) yesterday. The regulation, which gives the conference the right to set a limit on the number of mares a stallion can serve in one season, was declared void by Mr Justice Holland in the High Court in Christchurch earlier this year when he ruled on an 1
application by Nevele R. Stud, Prebbleton. The conference has lodged an appeal against the decision, while Nevele R. Stud has filed a cross appeal onpart of the decision, Vntil this season stallions were restricted to 125 services, plus return services. Mr Rowley was unable to give any indication of a date for the Appeal Court hearing. “It could be some months away, by which time the bulk of breeding activities in the 1982-83 season will have been completed,” he said. “All other rules and regulations governing breeding and the use of artificial insemination will apply,” he added.
