Appeals postponed

Appeals by five men who were fined after a Trotting Conference inquiry into corrupt practices in June have been postponed to October 12.

The appeals were to have been heard at a hearing, starting in Christchurch on Wednesday. A Sydney bookmaker, Kevin Leighton, and four New Zealanders, Messrs Bert Clapham, Patrick Ryder, Ernest Macdonald and William Flynn, were fined from $lOOO to $3500.

They appealed after being found guilty of irregularities in the ownership and training 'of several New Zealand horses. The sixth man convicted in the same case, J. E. Smith, of Takanini, did not appeal.
