Poverty

Sir, — With reference'to the stories of the hardships suffered by people living on small incomes I would like to comment on the feeding and nutrition issues raised. I suggest nutrition could be improved in the following ways at no extra cost: A cheaper form of protein than meat can be found in beans, lentils, etc., and there are recipe books in libraries showing how these can be used. Information on sprouting cheap, highly nutritious seeds can be gained from health shops. Vegetables and fruit can be scrubbed rather than peeled. When the warmer weather comes, the family can be introduced to eating more raw food. One raw cabbage goes, a long way in coleslaw and it and other green vegetables will supply calcium' as well as other vitamins and minerals to make up for lack of milk. — Yours, etc., , PAMELA DUNNE.
