Winning debut likely for Streets Ahead

By

G. K. YULE

Streets Ahead could follow the lead of his half-brother. Bad Luck, and start his race career on a winning note when he contests the Waitaki Stakes at the Kurow meeting to be held at Oamaru today. Bad Luck was a four-ye’ar-old in 1977 when he made a winning debut in a division race at Orari. Streets Ahead, a gelding bv Meadow Paige, has

created a big impression in his limited racing at trials and he could hardly have been more impressive when he was successful at the Addington trials last Wednesday. On that occasion, when driven by his owner-trainer, John Thompson, he was checked early and led for the last 1200 m to beat Glamour Chief, a colt expected to be one of his main rivals today. Robert Cameron, who was

associated with Bad Luck in many of his better performances. will be behind Streets Ahead today. The Invercargill filly, Kapiri. showed useful speed in a brief campaign last autumn. She is expected to develop worth-while form this season and a big run from her will not surprise. Hydro Light, Inca Gold and Malakula should do best of the others.
