Army food wins prizes

Consomme, sole, turnedo: chasseur, and apple mer inguc pie were on the mem as chefs from the Armec Services competed in the Maggi Cup section of the Salon Culmaire competitions. The national competitions, this week at the Christchurch Town Hall, were the first to be held in the South Island. Navy. Army, and Air Force teams have been competing for the Maggi Cup for about 10 years. The competition was divided into three parts — two cooking and one for stewards. The chefs were divided into two teams, one which prepared a hot meal to be served to three guests, while the other prepared a cold display. The Maggi Cup was won by the Army team, with Air Force second. The chefs in the Army team were Corporal D. A. Chapman. LanceCorporal A. R. James (both preparing the hot meal), Lance-Corporal B. M. Gordon. and Lance-Corporal D. S. Richardson (cold static display). The Nestles Cup. a new introduction last year, for stewarding, was won by Corporal Robyn Nisbet, of the Army, for the second year in succession. She was also third in the open waiting
