St Margaret’s girl wins top award
Angela Hampton, of St Margaret’s College, was the premier award winner at a Canterbury inter-secondary schools dressmaking competition held at Burnside High School recently. She won a special prize" of a dressmaker’s model given by Farmers and Hayrights for her school also.
The competition, organised by the North Christchurch Area Zonta Club, raised $5OO. which will go towards sponsoring an annual scholarship of $250 to help maintain a daughter of a solo mother at a senior level of school studies. Some of the money may go towards other service projects by the club. The competition attracted about 100 entries from 12 schools. Pupils from Rangiora and Mairehau high schools provided additional entertainment and members of the Burnside Radio Club provided the lighting and sound effects that highlighted the modelling. The judges, Fay Spicer and Zora Price, commended the high standard attained by’ the contestants and Miss Dawn Tilley, of the Christchurch Teachers’ College, who pre-
sented the prizes, praised the quality of the work being done in the schools and the way in which the models had presented their garments. The programme was compered by Mrs S. Willis. Results:
