‘Theft from poor’
The secretary of the Canterbury Trades' Council. Mr Leon Morel, has denounced the Budget as disastrous for the economy and “theft from the poor and the lower-paid worker.”
“It ■is obviously followed by additional pieces of legislation to introduce sales tax or other methods to recover the money, that has been given as tax cuts," he said yesterday. He foresaw a confrontation between . workers, and the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) over the Budget “because if he succeeds in forcing this unjust Budget upon workers even severer legislation will follow."
