Pet food not farmed salmon
Parliamentary reporter
No farmed salmon has been sold as pet food, according to inquiries made by the Minister of Fisheries (Mr Maclntyre). Replying to a question in Parliament by Sir Basil Arthur (Lab., Timaru) yesterday, Mr Maclntyre said his inquiries had shown that no farmed salmon had been sold as pet food.
It was asserted last week by the Under-Secretary for Internal Affairs (Mr Tliomp-
son) that farmed South Island salmon had been sold as cat food in a Rotorua shop. Mr Maclntyre referred to a report in “The Press” of Wednesday which said that the fish on sale in the Rotorua store had been found to be kahawai, which was also known as Pacific salmon. Australian salmon, or searun salmon.
