Duties: whole time. A wide variety of examinations are performed in the department which is responsible for all radiological. ultrasound and nuclear imaging procedures. (2) MEDICAL ONCOLOGIST: QUALIFICATIONS: Registered medical practitioner with appropriate higher qualification. Duties: whole time. This is a new position to coincide with the opening of the Oncology Department extensions. The present Oncology Department handles on average per year in excess of 700 new patients excluding’ minor malignancies. 11.500 follow-up examinations and 3.780 Chemotherapy administrations. The applicant will require to have completed an advanced training in cardiology and chest medicine and to be able to undertake research in myocardial infarction as part of a wider project supervised by Associate Professor R. M. Norris of the Coronary Care Unit. Green Lane Hospital. Auckland, and be eligible for Tutor Specialist or Specialist status. This involves investigation of protection of the myocardium by Propranolol used very early in myocardial infarction. The research will be based upon the Coronary Care Unit at Hutt and Wellington Hospitals. The Medical Research Council has undertaken to fund 50 per cent of the salary for two years. The balance of the work will include duties in general medicine and cardiology at the Hutt Hospital. In addition s/ he will have specific duties in chest medicine at the Hutt Hospital Outpatient Department. For these latter duties the appointee would be expected to work in association with a group of specialists in Chest Medicine at the Wellington Hospital. Salary for Specialists will be from - 5NZ35.121 to 845.213 a year, of the Specialists Automatic Salary Scale and for Tutor Specialists — 5NZ35.121 lo 537.942 a year. An additional duties supplement up to a,maximum of 10 per cent of basic salary is also ■ payable for hours worked in excess of 40 hours per I week. ■ .
