Soccer game praised

Sir,—Last evening, quite by chance, I went to English Park and watched Shirley Boys’ High School play Riccarton Boys’ High School in the Secondary Schools Cup Final. May I, through your column,, congratulate all concerned for a magnificent game of soccer. It had everything — pace, skill and. above all, was a sporting game with no bad fouls, gamesmanship or “chipping” at the referee. In some 50 years' of soccer I have seldom seen a better game. How I wish our so-called stars of NationalHertz league had been there to see the game as it should be played. With boys -like this the future of New Zealand soccer is in good hands. May I also say thanks to the Shirley Boys’ High School “choir” for their good-natured contribution. —.

Yours, etc.. G. JACKSON. August 5, 1982.
