Soviet and Pacific
Sir,—Acting on the advice of B. Crawley (July 16), I have read Zachariah, "xii, 3, and pondered “how today’s situation was foretold 2500 years ago.” My understanding is’ that the Israelis, having "burdened themselves with Jerusalem” as a "burdensome stone" (they annexed the Jordanian half and declared it their official capital), they how face the prospect, in the Bible’s words, of "being cut to pieces." Until this happens, it cannot be claimed that the Biblical prophecy has been fulfilled. Menachem Begin has proved himself as unfit as King David (Chronicles I, xxii, 7-9) “to build God a temple.” I should be grateful if B. Crawley would tell me the passage in the Bible “which foretells Soviet control of the Middle East,” sb that I may judge for myself. — Yours, etc., M. CREEL. July 17, 1982.
