Addington market Lower prices realised for prime stock
Most classes of prime stock had a quiet sale at the Addington market yesterday.
Delays in reopening the sheep killing' facilities at the Christchurch abattoirs contributed to a reduced demand for prime stock. Several local butchers have sheep on hand from last week waiting to be slaughtered. Old ewes and cattle maintained recent ' values, but lamb prices eased. ’ The quality of hoggets offered was described as poor and manv sold for Jess than $24. Prime Lambs Prices for prime lambs declined by about 50c compared with last week's sale. The over-all quality of the lambs was described as good, although a few pens of overfat stock were offered. Little competition was provided by buyers from the freezing works, and local butchers had reduced orders. The yarding was 1183 compared with 1399 last week. Values were:— Heavy lambs, to $29.20. Medium lambs. $22 to $25.50. Light lambs, $l5 to $22. Sales included:—Spencerville Partnership (Spencerville), 48 at $22.80 to $25: H. A. and S. W.
