Riccarton rates up 19 p.c.
A 19 per cent over-all rate increase facing Riccarton ratepayers this year includes rates struck by ad hoc bodies.
The Riccarton Borough rate, recommended by the Borough Council's finance and by-laws committee, is up 12.5 per cent this year. With the ad hoc charges added, the rate increase is 19 per cent.
The borough rates requirement is $577,716, $64,029 above last year’s. The ad hoc bodies ’requirement ..is $832,000, a 25? per cent -increase on last year. ' The Riccarton Town Clerk and Treasurer, Mr J. Ba Skinner, said yesterday, that average. residential, rates.for a property in. Raft ray Street would be $349.26. Ofitfiis, the ad hoc charges accounted for $211.98, and the borough charges for $137.28.
