Two major drawcards at Levin today

Special corresponent

Wellington

Two unbeaten northern youngsters and the continuing battle between Jim Cassidy and David Peake are just two of the major drawcards for the Levin meeting at Levin today. — i _*i Proiahtprc Handiran . a

Cassidv goes into the day with 114'wins, a lead of one over. Peake. Possible riding days for the duo are few and far between, just five nowbefore season’s end and Peake will have the advantage of at least two local meetings. However, for a fewminutes anyway, the two will have to take a backseat to a couple of northern youngsters. Holeproof and Red Tempo, in the Ryder Stakes, the Levin Racing Club’s feature today. Holeproof will be ridden by Bob Vance and Red Tempo by Chris McNab and these two look certain to dominate The $lO,OOO race. Red Tempo. a colt by the

Te Rapa stud sire, Mussorgsky, won by four lengths at Te* Rapa in May and then won by five lengths at Ellerslie just over a month ago. Both times the tracks were heavy. Holeproofs two wins came in Franklin in July by five lengths and then at Avondale by two lengths and a half. Like Red Tempo’s victories, those wins were over 1200 m. Holeproof is a gelding byGreat Wall from the Mayo Gold family, trained at Takanini by Colin Jillings. Central Districts horses are represented by Kar Dan, Catheness, Diamond Prince, Rebloom and Rosie Dawn, which look the pick of the

others. Peake will team with Ally Oop. a Hawera-trained mare in the first leg of the double, the Levin Winter Cup. Alley Oop has won her last three and her form, specially in the north, has been first rate. Her weight though at 60.5 kg is as testing as it can be Alley Oop apart, the field for the first leg is top class. Bridge . Player won the Owens trophy race, Super Tai and Sovereign’s Ace are two top 1600 m exponents which staged a terrific duel at Wanganui two weeks ago, while London Trader is also a fine miler. The second leg of the double, the Modern

Freighters Handicap, also looks to be wide open. Flying Home is the topweight. He won at Hastings. ran fourth at Wanganui and then sixth in the Winter Oats at Trentham last Saturday. This race does not look bevond him at all. Silver Grit's form is consistent. He won at Hastings and has two Trentham placings to support his claims. He is on his home course, as well. Sasoledo. a Wanganui winner, Irish Charger, which ran two good races at Trentham. Tosto, Fair Edge, Allmada. and a former local, Acquittal, are all among the possibilities as well.
