Forest protection explained

Ways to protect the scenic value of forests have been investigated in a new Government publication titled “Creative Forestry.”

Members of the Forest Service landscape section . have written the 117-page illustrated book to help forest managers understand and relate landscape values to forestry. Topics range from the landscape significance of forests to practical advice for forest village planning and signposting. “In their responses to forest alteration, people tend to be absorbed in the immediate situation and less aware of off-site gains and losses." say the authors. Logging would also have a big impact on the rural environment during the neXt decade and a separate guide to logging would be prepared after more investigation. Copies of “Creative Forestry" are available at $11.50 each from Government Bookshops, the Government Printer, and Forest Service conservancy offices.
