Class altered

PA Wellington' Racing classes have been changed and trainers’ payments can now be paid direct following rule changes at the annual conference of racing club representatives in Wellington yesterday. The move to pay trainers direct by clubs was tried last year, but it failed. It returned, tightened by the Waikato committee, and though there was some opposition. notably from South Island clubs, the move went through.

The change in class has come through a move by the Wellington Racing Club, and will come into effect on January 31 next year. Class two is now for winners of five races not six. Class three is now for three, not four, and Class four for one, not two. Earlier delegates had discussed, and then rejected a Canterbury proposal which sought to change the system by assessing the horse, rather than the race.
