Top speakers for Westland conference
A comprehensive conference with a number of prominent visiting speakers has been organised for dairy farmers on the West Coast for next week. The West Coast Dairy Farmers Conference will run from 11. a m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 20, at the Kings Hotel, Greymouth. Leading the team of visiting speakers will be Dr Jock McMillan, M.A.F. Ruakura, who is in charge of the No. 3 Dairy and is regarded as one of New Zealand’s leading scientists on dairy cow reproduction. Another Ruakura speaker is Mr John Scott, senior liaison officer, who will speak on new developments
in cow management and nutrition. Dr Colin Holmes, Reader in Dairy Husbandry, Massey University, will speak on some of his research into milkfat responses to nitrogen, milking machine research, mastitis and high and low breeding index cows. The fourth visiting speaker is Mr Brian Sharpe, regional manager of the marketing division, N.Z. Dairy Board, responsible for the Pacific Islands, Australia, Europe and Africa. He will speak on the market outlook for dairy products. Other speakers include M.A.F. officers on the West Coast and local dairy farmers.
