Police seek 'Mrs X’
PA Auckland The Auckland police are trying to trace the. writer of an anonymous letter who asserts that a missing Hobsonville woman has been murdered. The letter was posted on June 30 at Sockburn, near the Royal New Zealand Air Force base at Wigram. The missing woman. Mrs Yvonne Bennett, aged 24, disappeared from her home at the Hobsonville air base more than 12 weeks ago.
The letter was addressed to “Police Station. Hobsonville. Auckland" and signed “Mrs X." The writer asserts that Mrs Bennett was murdered in April by a man (who is named) and that the police should question him for “two or three hours.” The regional controller of the Auckland C. 1.8.. Detective Chief Superintendent Brian Wilkinson, said yesterday that the letter would be
checked for fingerprints this week. He appealed for anybody who knows the writer of the letter to get in touch with the police. “No further information has come in regarding sightings or the whereabouts of Mrs Bennett,” he said. Mrs Bennett was last seen by her husband on the evening of April 19 at their home in the married quarters of the air base. They have a daughter, aged five.
