NZPA staff correspondent London The New Zealander. Dame Naomi James, and her husband. Rob. have set a new record on the first leg of the Round-Britain Yacht Race. The husband and wife team, sailing a revolutionary 60ft trimaran Colt Cars GB. designed by a New Zealander. Ron Holland, were first into their home port of Crosshaven, covering the 230mile leg from Plymouth in

just over 22 hours. This was seven hours inside the previous record. Less than an hour behind them were Chay Blyth and Peter Bateman in Brittany Ferries GB. Blyth won the 1978 race with Rob James crewing. The 97 boats in the 2000mile race set off for Castlebay in the Hebrides on the next 460-mile leg yesterday after a compulsory 48 hours stopover in Ireland.
