Keeping an eye on the World Cup finals
With Phase One concluded, and Phase Two only just under way, there is comparitively reduced coverage of. matches in the World Cup finals for the next few days. - However, some eariyrisers will this morning be watching the England v West Germany match, the subject of a late decision to televise it live. ' The usual satellite package on Two will be screened this evening, and again on Friday, with tonight’s package being ■ repeated at 7 a.m. tomorrow on One. f Otherwise the main coverage is on the YC stations. Today at 10.30 a.m., they will tarry highlights from the matches involving the Group II winners, West Germany, Against the Group IV winner, England; and the Group I runner-up, Italy, v. Argen-
tina, the Group 111 runner-up. Friday’s 1 p.m. highlights on the YC stations is of the Group I winner, Poland, v the Group VI runner-up, Russia; and the Group V winner, Spain, plays the Group II runner-up, Austria. The full results of Phase I are detailed in the grid at right. The full list of qualifiers, the winning team listed first, are:— Group I: Poland, Italy. Group II: West Germany, Austria. Group III: Belgium, Argentina. • Group IV: England, France. Group V: Spain, Northern Ireland. Group VI: Brazil. Russia. Starting on Friday, the regular sports feature pages of ’"The Press” will carry a ■grid showing Phase Two games and results.
