Apartheid
Sir, — On the international stage our Government Ministers and diplomatic representatives cite the massive demonstrations against the 1981 Springbok tour as proof of our firm stand against apartheid. Our selfish Rugby Union and the Government must stand as guilty, yet the HART leader, John Minto, is in jail. Your report of the case clearly indicates that Minto has been jailed not for what he did (his 14 co-defendants were not so sentenced), but »for what lie said and what he believes. HART’s long campaign against apartheid is grounded on a demand for justice for all people: The justice dispensed in this case requires very critical evaluation; we must guard our freedoms jealously. — Yours, ; etc., - ■ . R;, J. FINLAY. June 27, 1982. .
