Ardiles wants transfer
NZPA Villajayosa ‘Til never go back to England." said the Argentine soccer star, Osvaldo Ardiles, yesterday, reflecting the bitterness of his team-mates over Britain's recapture of the Falkland Islands. Ardiles said he had informed Tottenham Hotspur that he wanted to be transferred. possibly to Paris St Germain. “I could never play soccer again in England unless relations between our countries improve dramatically." said Ardiles. who is nearly a national hero to British soccer fans.
Ardiles said his cousin. Jose Ardiles. was killed in the Falklands three weeks ago when his Mirage jetfighter was shot down. He left a wife and three children. “We deserve the Malvinas (Falklands) and we need them," said the Argentine coach, Cesar Luis Menotti. “I regret the bloodshed but I feel that more national unity and a serious approach to the future will result from the conflict. “First the Colonialists, now the Imperialists. They have lived from the toil of the South American people." Mr Menotti said.
