Centenary lamb arrives
To commemorate the centenary of the arrival of the first shipment of refrigerated New Zealand meat at East India Docks in London, one tonne of New Zealand lamb has been presented to The Queen Elizabeth Hospital for Children in Hackney, London. Among the guests at the ceremony was Mr Bob Whyte, managing director ol Blueport ACT.(N.Z.), Ltd. Mr Whyte is a great grandson of Sir John Roberts, who was instrumental in developing the frozen meat trade from New Zealand and who owned
and shipped a part of the first shipment on the Dunedin. The presentation of the lamb was made by Mr Mervyn Barnett, chairman of the New Zealand Meat Industry Centenary Committee, and it was accepted on behalf of the hospital by Mrs Caroline Bond, chairman of the Board of Governors. Also attending was Mr Ganger. New Zealand High Commissioner in London. . T-7 Queen Mother is the pa<ron of The Queen Elizabeth Hospital for Children in ; Hackney which was once
described as a haven by Charles Dickens. The gift — six months supply of lamb for the hospital — has been called the most unusual gift it has received in its 114-year history.
