Safety record
The Christchurch concrete pipe factory of Hume Industries (New Zealand), Ltd, has an excellent track record in safety. The factory has not lost time through injuries for the last five years — a significant achievement considering the difficult conditions inside the factory, according to the South Island regional manager (Mr John Hunt).
The total number of man hours worked during the last five years, to June 9, is 255,000.
About 40 people are employed by Humes at Christchurch, including 30 in the factory. Eighty per cent of the factory’s work involves producing pipes and tanks using the spinning process but the company also manufactures pre-cast products.
