Grey Culate in fine form
. Special correspondent Palmerston North Grey Culate (Manawatu Steeplechase), Solitaire (Winter Handicap), Nukumai and Super Tai galloped in fine style at Awapuni yesterday morning. .The weather has been fine this/week but the Awapuni track will still be heavy for tomorrow. Grey Culate was in fine form running 1600 m on the inside trial with Copper Kane and Taitan. The full distance took Imin 46.45, the last 600 m in 39.45. It was a fine effort for jumpers. Nukumai went into his work strongly when running 1400 m in Imin 31.65, the final 600 m in 40.65. Gus Clutterbuck "has the mount tomorrow. Gaimoss and Guppy did well to run 800 m in'so.2s, the last 600 m in- 38.25. Gaimoss has done good work at trials lately and is in forward condition for a fresh start in
the Suburban Handicap. Hirelm worked away from King Carl at the end of 1600 m, the last 1200 m in Imin 20s and the 600 m in 395; It was improved work by Hirelm. . \ - ; Head Planet ran the last 1200 m of 1600 m in Imin 21.65, the last 600 m in 40s and he will be hard to beat in the Ngata Handicap. Cielle and Lord Hymac recorded Imin 19s for 1200 m, the last 600 m in 40s. Lord Hymac worked well enough to be given a chance in-the Winter Handicap. He has won an open race .at Awapuni in the past. On the plough, Solitaire ran 1400 m in Imin 36s and the last 600 m in 41s. She has made • good i progress this week and is the improver in the' first leg. Super Tai went smartly over 1000 m in Imin ss, the last 6(M)m in 40s. He; has trained on since Wanganui and . should go close again in . the Doncaster Handicap.
