Crowd greets Mr Quigley
More than 200 cheering supporters greeted the dismissed Cabinet Minister, Mr Derek Quigley, when he arrived at Christchurch Airport from Wellington last evening. It was quite overwhelming. I had to go in the finish. It was too much for me,” said Mr Quigley, the member of Parliament for Rangiora, from his farm at Waipara, North Canterbury, last evening. The placard-carrying, banner-waving welcome for Mr Quigley was organised by a Rangiora man, and the National Party executive in
Canterbury had supported it, said the secretary of the party's Canterbury-Westland division, Mr G. Johnstone. “The initial idea came from outside the party, organisation, from voters in the Rangiora electorate,” said Mr Johnstone. Mr Quigley said he would rest at home at the week-end before returning on Monday to give a dinner address in Mr M. B. Couch’s Wairarapa electorate. What were his plans after that? “It will be Tuesday,” said Mr Quigley.
