Rejection of export meat low
PA Wellington The rate of rejection of New Zealand meat exported to the United States was by far the lowest of the top 10 suppliers of meat to that country last year. The director of the Ministry of Agriculture Meat Division. Mr J. D. McNab, said that recently released figures showed the rate of rejection for New Zealand meat to be only 0.7 per cent.' New Zealand was the second-largest source of imported red meat for the United States market, supplying 171 million kilograms of’ meat in 1981. Australia sent 245 million kilograms. Its rejection rate was second, at 0.37 per cent. The country with the highest rejection rate among the top 10 was Costa Rica, at 2.07 per cent. Reasons for rejection are usually because of contamination with hair. wool, bone, or other extraneous material.
