Stamp of success for a collector
A Christchurch man, Mr Ron Ingram (pictured), won the Post Office grand award for the best competitive entry in the recent Palmpex National Stamp Exhibition at Palmerston North. Mr Ingram’s exhibit comprised a collection of New Zealand official stamps, used by government departments until they became obsolete in 1965. The oldest
stamp was over-printed in 1907. Mr Ingram won a silvergold medal with the collection in the Panpex National Exhibition in Christchurch in 1977, a silver-gold in the Zeapex International Exhibition in Auckland in 1980, and a gold at the Palmpex Exhibition in addition to the grand award. The gold medal was won in the face of stiff competi-
tion, with more than 300 entries. He hopes to exhibit the collection in Ausipex, an international exhibition in Melbourne, in September 1984. Mr Ingram has been collecting for 30 years. He began his collection of New Zealand official stamps 15 years ago. It includes official stamps with flaws and various varieties.
