Mild May at Lincoln
It was a mild May, according to weatjier ’ readings taken at Lincoln College. The warm, sunny, and windy days, and the Tack of serious frosts, were helpful to farmers.; Growing condi- " tions were good, although pasture growth was limited by the lack of rain. The May rainfall was the lowest recorded since 1979, and was less than half of the 1980 figure. Less than 30mm of rain fell during the month, which brought the rainfall for' the first half of the year to 131.8 mm. That was significantly below the 1979 and 1980 figures, and slightly below that, for last year.' The number of frost days -was 14, comparable with 1979, but less than the last two years.
