Record chess entry
A record entry of 35 teams has been received for the twelfth schools' chess teams' tournament sponsored by “The Press" during the second term.
The previous best was 29 teams in 1979. a number equalled last year. Eight teams have entered the premier grade. 15 in the B grade and 12 in the C grade. Four Avenues, Chisnail-
wood Intermediate and Breens Intermediate are newcomers to the tournament and. for the first time, a girls' school has entered the B grade. In previous years, girls' schools have played, in the C grade along with intermediate schools, but Christchurch Girls’ High School has entered the stronger B grade. The tournament starts next week;
