Sirens on police vehicles?
Parliamentary reporter The police may reintroduce sirens, in police, vehicles next year. Government approval in principle has already been given. The Minister of Police (Mr, Couch) said, the police were considering providing a siren with the new mobile radio, which would come into ser-. vice in 1983. \ .\ .- At this stage it seemed a viable proposition, he said.
Mr Couch’s statement follows up a question in Parliament by Mr M. A. Connelly® (Lab.. Yaldhurst) asking that, as it was recognised that flashing blue lights on police cars (particularly in daylight) did not act as a sufficient warning, would the Government reconsider its decision not to provide funds to equip police vehicles with sjrehs unless compensatory savings were made ■ where?j;~”
