Programme to mark Haydn anniversary
On Monday. May 4. 1795. Haydn gave his last benefit concert in London: it took place at the Haymarket Theatre, and the programme included “Scena di Berenice" which Haydn wrote for the most famous prima donna of her day. Brigitta Giorgi Banti. This piece has been I" included in the programme recorded at Government House. Wellington. "Haydn in Concert." produced to "mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Franz Joseph Haydn and which will be screened on One on Sunday at 7 p.m. The idea behind the programme was to recreate a musical evening in the manner in which Haydn would i have held one in London in the 1700 s. I An audience was specially c invited to a musical soiree at J Government House, with the ‘ Governor-General (Sir David Beattie) and Lady Beattie in 6 attendance.
