NZPA Singapore The extradition hearing of a New Zealander facing drug charges in his home country has been postponed for a second week by a Magistrate’s Court. The man, Andrew te Kanawa Parata, of Auckland, was remanded in custody. The Singapore police requested a postponement because an extradition warrant had not been obtained from the Law Minister. Parata, aged 35, who has ; lived in Bangkok for the last five years, faces charges of importing 48.2 kg of cannabis into New Zealand in December, 1980. He was first remanded on May 24 after being arrested 11 days earlier for possession of 0.48 grams of cannabis. He ’ pleaded guilty and was fined 400 Singapore dollars (SNZ26O).
