Admiral to watch China Sea exercise

NZPA Singapore. ■The New Zealand Chief of Naval Staff, Rear-Admiral K. M. Sauli, arrived at Singapore yesterday to begin a two-week official visit to South-East Asia. Admiral Sauli will also watch an exercise in the South China Sea this weekend from aboard the frigate Canterbury now under British command. H.MiN.Z.S. Canterbury, flagship of the admiral, is on loan to the ;Royal Navy to help relieve a warship from the British Indian Ocean task force for duty in the Falklands war .zone. During his three-day. stay. Admiral 'Sauli will meet Singapore’s Defence Minister (Mr. Goh Chok Tongh) and the Acting Chief of General Staff, Brigadier-General Tan Shin Tiong. The spokesman said that Admiral Sauli’s itinerary did not include visits to the troubled Thai-Kampuchean border areas. He would return home after brief visits to Indonesia and Australia.
