Scorcher takes eye
Special correspondent Dunedin • Scorcher took the eye among trialists for the Otago meeting at Wingatui yesterday morning. - Scorcher was showing clear of Jean Command at the finish of 800 m in 52.85, the last 600 m in 40.8 s on an easing inside grass. Scorcher has been marking time since a fast finishing fifth at the Wairio meeting on ' April 24. He finished second to' Medamac on the first day of the Riverton Easter meeting at his other start from the Heasley stable. Jim Collett has the mount in the Brighton handicap. Collett took his tally of wins for the season to 81 when he rode three winners at Oamaru last Saturday.
Beulah and Paddle ran 800 m 545, in the last 600 m in 41.75, and Acco and Paddy’s Market sprinted from the 600 m in 40.45. Chinette put dash into her work when sprinting 600 m on the sand in 38.45. Lucas Lad and Candidago ran 800 m on the sand, in 535. Ardmore Queen and Native Satin ran 800 m in 52s next to the inside rail on the i course proper.
