Mount Cook expands
A $2.3 million replacement programme for Mount Cook Freightlines was today described as an investment in South Canterbury by the managing director of The Mount Cook Group. Ltd (Mr P. S. Phillips). The South Canterburybased freight fleet will be increased to a total of 70 vehicles. Included in the vehicles are ten Mack diesels in the 300 h.p. class which will be used for rural freight and stock work with up to 39-ton loads. Two Mercedes-Benz are for the furniture moving fleet, two Nissans for limesowing and seven Ford
Trader pick-ups as general freight vehicles. The manager of the company's Freightline division, Mr Hugh Garner, of Timaru. said that also included are trailers, semi-trailers, ancillary gear including forklifts, tipping bins, and 3-deck stock crates. “This is the first phase of an ongoing programme," he said. “The new vehicles will become our Blue Ribbon fleet with a new livery for the larger vehicles, emphasising their role." They will give greater speed and efficiency through improved turn-around, greater capacity. lower maintenance, and improved fuel economy.
