Hagley High School
Sir, — How many pass by Hagley High School each day, en route to important daily tasks, without realising what that institution has offered to Christchurch? Thank you to J. T. Doyle (May 26) for pointing out what the school does offer. I believe that each school has a useful purpose to fulfil, especially if interacting closely with local community interests. It would be a great pity if Hagley’s demise came as a result of another school’s rise. Each school has an important role to play in its own particular way. Hagley High has just as legitimate a role to play as does Christchurch Girls’ High. Many schools could learn valuable lessons from Hagley. This school’s old exterior and cramped physical location belie what it is attempting to dp in providing formal education and in preparing its pupils for a brave new world. Let us give our educational institutions the support they deserve and, in particular, lift up Hagley High School as a school deserving of a vibrant future. — Yours, etc, •H. D. MORRISON. ’.May 29, 1982.
